We are seeking an experienced Senior SAP ERP ABAP Developer for an international rollout involving SAP logistics, primarily Sales & Distribution (SD) and Materials Management (MM).
Working within an established SAP ERP/ECC on-premise environment, you will take responsibility for ABAP development, system integrations, technical troubleshooting, and performance optimisation. Your involvement will span the entire development lifecycle, from converting functional requirements into reliable technical solutions through testing, go-live, and post-launch stabilisation.
The role suits a senior developer who can independently manage technical work, investigate complex issues across connected systems, and work closely with functional consultants and technical teams in an international setting.
SAP Landscape & Technical Scope
An established SAP ERP/ECC on-premise landscape and SAP codebase.
SD and MM are the primary modules within the role’s scope.
A separate team is responsible for FI/CO.
ERP activity consists mainly of system-to-system processing, with limited dialog-user interaction.
The integration landscape includes:
SAP Integration Suite (CPI)
SAP PI/PO
IDocs
ABAP Proxies
RFC/BAPI
HTTP / Web Services
The work involves close integration with SAP CRM and SAP FI, alongside collaboration with functional SD/MM teams.
SAP Fiori and SAPUI5 are outside the scope of this position.
Responsibilities
Translate functional requirements into SAP ERP logistics solutions for SD and MM, designing, developing, and maintaining them with ABAP Objects, BAdIs, user/customer exits, and the Enhancement Framework.
Create and extend classic ABAP developments, covering ALV reports, mass-data programs, background jobs, forms, output processing, and data conversions.
Develop, extend, and troubleshoot interfaces using IDocs and IDoc extensions, ABAP proxies, RFC/BAPI, HTTP, and web services.
Provide technical support for integrations involving SAP Integration Suite (CPI) and SAP PI/PO.
Monitor workflows, interfaces, and IDocs, investigate technical failures, and implement effective error handling and resolution.
Analyse and debug end-to-end business processes across systems, including:
Order → Delivery → Billing
Purchase Order → Goods Receipt → Invoice Verification
Investigate root causes and correct defects in SAP and connected systems.
Assess runtime and database performance and implement optimisation measures.
Handle daily development tasks, corrections, and technical analysis requests independently.
Contribute throughout testing, cutover, go-live, and hypercare.
Take part in code reviews, prepare technical documentation, and support knowledge transfer.
Required Experience & Skills
At least 5 years of hands-on ABAP development experience within SAP ERP/ECC on-premise environments.
Strong command of ABAP Objects (OO ABAP), with the ability to produce clean, reusable, and maintainable code.
Strong experience using BAdIs, user exits, customer exits, and the Enhancement Framework.
Practical experience creating classic ABAP solutions, particularly ALV reports, batch/background jobs, and mass-data programs.
Solid knowledge of SAP SD, covering:
Sales orders
Deliveries
Billing
Pricing
Output control
Good knowledge of SAP MM, especially purchasing and inventory management.
Strong practical experience in IDoc development and troubleshooting, including message types, extensions, and inbound/outbound processing.
Experience implementing integrations through ABAP proxies, RFC, BAPI, HTTP, and web services.
Integration experience involving SAP Integration Suite (CPI) and/or SAP PI/PO.
Strong skills in debugging and root-cause analysis across systems.
Experience analysing and optimising ABAP and database performance.
Familiarity with transport and release management.
Experience using Jira and SAP Solution Manager (SolMan).
The ability to work independently and own technical topics.
Fluent English.
Additional Experience That Would Be an Advantage
Applying Clean Code principles and object-oriented design patterns in ABAP.
Working with ABAP Unit, ATC, and automated/static code-quality checks.
Knowledge of Logistics Execution, WM/EWM, shipping, or transportation processes.
Experience within retail, e-commerce, or mail-order environments.
German language skills.
