SAP Basis Coordinator – SAP S/4HANA Greenfield Program

As part of ERP Release I, the program is establishing a new SAP S/4HANA landscape that must operate alongside and integrate with the existing legacy ERP environment. In parallel with the broader ERP implementation, the complete SAP Basis foundation will need to be planned, coordinated, and delivered from the ground up.

The scope includes a wide range of interdependent topics covering landscape setup, licensing, security, technical integration, operational readiness, and transition to support. A dedicated SAP Basis Coordinator will therefore take ownership of structuring and steering these activities within the existing ECP program governance and agile delivery framework.

Role Summary

The SAP Basis Coordinator will lead the SAP Basis workstream across the SAP S/4HANA implementation and act as the Product Owner for Basis-related activities in an SAP RISE Private Edition environment.

This role is responsible for organizing and driving the Basis roadmap, backlog, planning, governance, coordination, and overall delivery. In addition, the position owns the direction of the SAP authorization and access management approach, ensuring that technical design and operational processes satisfy business, security, compliance, and audit expectations.

The ideal profile combines deep expertise in SAP Basis, SAP RISE, SAP S/4HANA, and HANA with strong delivery management, stakeholder coordination, and the ability to remain hands-on where needed.

Key Responsibilities

SAP Basis Workstream Management

• Define, maintain, and drive the SAP Basis roadmap and associated delivery backlog.

• Take Product Owner responsibility for Basis-related epics, features, and work packages.

• Plan and prioritize activities throughout the different phases of the implementation.

• Manage Basis work items and documentation through Jira and Confluence.

• Support refinement, sprint planning, reviews, and other agile delivery activities.

• Carry out hands-on Basis tasks when required by the program.

SAP RISE Landscape Setup and Readiness

• Coordinate the setup and readiness of the full SAP landscape, including:

  • DEV

  • QAS

  • PRE-PROD

  • PROD

  • SAP CAR

  • SAP S/4HANA

  • SLT

  • Fiori components

• Oversee provisioning, technical integrations, environment preparation, and readiness for operations.

• Coordinate dependencies between SAP, architecture, infrastructure, security, networking, program teams, and external service providers.

• Ensure that the required systems and technical components are aligned with the broader ERP delivery plan.

Governance, Dependencies, and Delivery Coordination

• Coordinate SAP Basis consultants, SAP RISE teams, and third-party providers involved in the workstream.

• Track and manage delivery dependencies, milestones, risks, and commitments.

• Define and maintain Basis processes, standards, governance, and supporting documentation.

• Ensure that technical and operational procedures are in place before cutover and transition to production support.

Stakeholder and Program Communication

• Act as the main point of contact for SAP Basis planning, progress, risks, dependencies, and open issues.

• Provide structured and dependable status reporting to program stakeholders and leadership.

• Present technical topics in a form that is understandable and relevant to business and management audiences.

• Coordinate decisions and actions across technical and non-technical teams.

Operational Readiness

The SAP Basis roadmap must cover the key operational areas required for productive use, including:

• Monitoring and performance management

• Certificate and security management

• Backup and recovery

• High availability and disaster recovery

• Network connectivity and integration

• Production support preparation

• Transition into operations

SAP Authorization and Access Management

• Lead the definition and governance of the SAP authorization and access management model.

• Coordinate the design of business roles, composite roles, and single roles.

• Ensure appropriate organizational restrictions are included within the role concept.

• Define governance around user access, privileged access, and emergency access.

• Ensure alignment with Segregation of Duties (SoD) requirements.

• Support access risk analysis, remediation, documentation, and audit preparation.

Required Technical Expertise

• Strong and extensive experience in SAP Basis within complex enterprise environments.

• Proven practical experience working with SAP RISE Private Edition.

• Solid expertise in SAP S/4HANA and SAP HANA database administration.

• Experience working with or coordinating SAP RISE service teams and hyperscaler environments.

• Good understanding of SAP authorization concepts and access governance.

• Experience across the following areas:

  • SAP Cloud ALM

  • SAP landscape and system provisioning

  • CTS / STMS

  • SAP Web Dispatcher

  • SAP Content Server

  • Security and certificate management

  • Monitoring and performance tuning

  • Backup and recovery

Delivery and Planning Experience

• Experience leading or coordinating major SAP implementation workstreams.

• Strong understanding of agile backlog, sprint, and release management.

• Experience planning dependencies, milestones, cutover activities, and go-live.

• Ability to coordinate multiple vendors, partners, and external service providers.
